Jesus Take The Wheel

The man’s hair is greasy, and his eyes dart around the room as he relates to me the tale of his car accident. “It’s a miracle I’m alive,” he says.

I can smell him, and I wonder when he last showered. His shirt is on backwards, and the front of his slacks is unclasped (the back falls far enough to make plain he’s not wearing underwear).

“It was a quadruple spin that turned into a flip, and I walked away without a scratch, because of Jesus Christ. Because of JESUS CHRIST!” He punches his fist into an opposing palm for emphasis.

He is clearly not well.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t right.

And if he said, “Because of Ishtar!” it doesn’t mean he wasn’t right. How healthy is this attribution of divine intervention?

There is more to this story. What can you, did you do for the guy.

There was a homeless guy walking around the Petsmart with this dog trying to stay warm. The guy was in the same condition as your guy but was covered with ratty sweaters and jackets and gloves. I bought a gift card when I checked out for his dog. I didn’t have any cash on me. I walked back, found him and gave it to him. He was hard of hearing and it was hard to make him understand what it was for. When it sunk in he grabbed me and hugged me. Boy was he smelly!!! I kind of cringed (my mother coming out in me) but never let him see that. It was justthe right thing to do at the right time.

    Love you, Mom
